Last month, The IN Group’s Race & Religion community put on a number of engaging Black History Month events. These explored what it means to them to Stand Firm in Power and Pride — the theme for 2025 — acknowledging the past, celebrating the present and empowering each other for the future.

Food for Thought: Transformative or Performative?

They began the month with Food for Thought on Monday 6th October, an inspiring lunchtime debate titled ‘Transformative or Performative?‘. Hosted virtually and open to all employees, this session encouraged open dialogue around diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives and their real-world impact. Colleagues were invited to listen, engage, and reflect on how we can each contribute to meaningful and lasting change.

The Black Curriculum

Later in the month, on Tuesday 28th October, members of the Race & Religion Committee volunteered with The Black Curriculum, a social enterprise dedicated to promoting Black British history in schools through workshops, teacher training, and youth programmes. The team supported the organisation’s 6th Anniversary Gala that evening, assisting with event setup, guest engagement, and fundraising.

It was an inspiring occasion, enriched by the stories of young champions and ambassadors who shared how The Black Curriculum has empowered them. A special thank you goes to the committee for their enthusiasm and commitment to supporting such an important cause.

The Big Black History Month Quiz

We closed the month with The Big Black History Month Quiz on Thursday 30th October in the London office. This lively in-person celebration brought colleagues together for an evening of music, food, fun and friendly competition.

Hosted by a fantastic drag queen known for their appearance on Drag Race UK, the quiz infused learning with laughter and created a joyful atmosphere that captured the true spirit of Black History Month — pride, unity, and celebration.

A huge thanks to The IN Group’s incredible Race & Religion committee members: Felix Hook, Florence Sanni, Shanay Davis, Charlotte Goodger, Timi Akinyemi, Beth Williams, Kavita Sharma and Rebecca Wenninger, plus a big shout out to Aidy Drummey and Amrisha Singh who helped make these events possible.
